Hi Joan, We are currently in the process of entering the second year of using Celcat 6.x. In theory we could normally just rollover all the data - I did this as a test and found it worked very simply and first time. The only extra work required is regarding group structures since we are a new school within Keele University and therefore it will be around 4 years until this is implemented as a stable system. The first cohort of students are arranged into a non-standard set of groups as the number of students is lower than normal. Last year we timetabled down to "group level" - this year we will be importing student data so that rather than look at their allocated group, students can actually have a personal timetable. The way I sometimes work with the data in Celcat is to export the data to CSV, manipulate it quickly and then manipulate it back into Celcat, although the wizards also do a fairly good job - in 6.3.0.40 a warning checkbox was finally added to the wizards that warned you there was no undo! In practice, our pool room bookings with the central university are done in Syllabus Plus, and since we haven't got a plugin to make the data interchangeable (this is not really a technical issue, more of an admin one! I'm sure Celcat could help from a technical viewpoint from the proforma) I've rolled over the timetable with all resources but no events, and then lifting events by category out of the old timetable to produce a list of bookings for central timetabling, and then importing them into the new timetable when those bookings are confirmed. Hope this is of some use, Chris Hodgson, Keele University |
