Optional events and clash checking

At Central Saint Martins we have a hands on approach to teaching subjects such as jewellery design and product design, with lots of workshops which are often available for student to use on an open access or priority basis.

For example, a particular group of students might be given workshop priority on a particular day. Attendence wouldn't be compulsory, it would depend what each student was working on at that time. On the same day each member of that student group might have a half hour tutorial. Both events need to go in the student timetable. The quickest way to timetable this is to create an event for the whole student group for the optional workshop access, but this leads to clashes for the tutorials.

Is there any way of putting an event in as optional and therefore stopping that event being clash checked? As a last resort I can tell people to ignore the clash checking for that event, but that's a very bad habit to get people into.

Any suggestions very welcome

Thanks

Jenny

Incomplete events clash checking

We have a problem with clash checking where the auto clash-checking does not list incomplete events. In our options, we have No rooms allocated ticked in the incomplete events tab. When we create / amend an event, the auto clash check runs. This will not list checks for weeks where no room is allocated. We need to run the clash check manually before this will come up.

Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions or explanations?
